Apple Juice

The thirst quenching drink seems ever present in every refrigerator I open

Not typically those of people whose kids are older then 17 though

The door creaks open and I reach in and grab the carefully designed Motts bottle

The indents on the sides of the bottle make it user friendly for people of all ages

As a pour the crisp cold drink into a glass I always think of sippy cups

My cousins running around their apartment with sippy cups filled with apple juice

The cup was made so as to eliminate the possibility of creating a mess by spilling

Family gatherings had sippy cups everywhere

My cousins so young that they had to use them were carefree

No worries in their life, and everything was handed to them

Its hard to relate to people when they’re eyes are glued to dora the explorer

So I would channel my energy into interacting with my older cousins

Whom I also believed received everything on a silver platter

As I turned the corner and passed an apple juice filled sippy cup

On my way to see what they were older to I would be scared

Two of my cousins had one year on me, and boy oh boy they would always remind me of that. Never was I there equal and never would I be there equal.

It reached higher levels.

Sprinting down the halls of the park plaza hotel in Beaver Creek playing hide and go seek, on of my favorite activities on winter break

Would be terminated by my evil cousins kicking me

Out of the elevator with there feet.

Apple juice – sippy cups – cruel cousins

You cant chose your family

But there are many other things you can choose.
